Hi Scout Team — Curious if heated seat belts are already planned for the Traveler and Terra at launch?

ZF recently demonstrated that heated safety belts can reduce winter HVAC energy usage by directly warming occupants instead of heating the full cabin — potentially improving cold-weather EV range noticeably: .

Would love to see Scout evaluate this technology for future models — especially for cold-weather and overlanding use cases.

I hope they have a way to turn on only the back heater. I don't like my bum warmed. Feels like I need to take a crap.

And a heated seatbelt sounds really nice. I wonder if they could put an infrared heater in the ceiling of the regular roof more cheaply and easily pointed at your chest and lap.

I’m exactly the same way, I’m always powering the back heater on full throttle and never use the butt warmer 🔥( i ) . I don’t like it. Seems like every other car we’ve had, has had that capability. I really hope that is a feature. I’d pay extra for that, but that’s just me. No steering wheel heater would be a deal breaker

Personally I could care less about cooled seats either 🥶. Never use them. However my wife wouldn’t buy a car without it. Everyone is wired so different. If my wife had fuses I think she‘d blow a few daily.

This is pretty off topic of the parent post. But energy density of batteries is only half of the problem. The other half is having as many fast chargers that actually work and fully charge fast, everywhere people want to travel, especially for an adventure vehicle.

How many Range Rover go on adventures I just came from fort Myers Florida to Alantic city New Jersey 1200 miles and not one problem put in your nav system the reliable charging stations Tesla , Electrify America and have your adapters it cost me 165 bucks in charging fees gas would be much more. So Scout is building a Adventure vehicle that will be used on Adventures 20% of the time so I think Scout will cater to the 80% tile and be successful.

Again there are more relevant posts for this discussion, but US Range Rovers are bought as status items like Rolexes and Gucci handbags, so not a great comparison.

A majority of the people excited about the return of Scout want it for the heritage, and would buy one if it was full ICE over BEV. This has been demonstrated by Scout data since less than 20% have reserved a BEV Scout. It is also demonstrated in how Ford killed their BEV truck, RAM canceled theirs, and Rivian is a bit player in overall truck volume. There is no example of a success story in the USA for medium to large passenger BEV trucks. I'm hoping some small trucks from Slate and Ford will be successful.

If there were any choice to make by Scout it would be to kill the BEV version until infrastructure and consumer preferences line up to where you want them to be. I hope we get there some day but we are 5-10 years away, and that is a long time to be able to bootstrap the brand to make it to this future state.

I like many have change my reservation to full EV because of the original misconception about range.150 miles of EV range and 350 miles of Erev. To get your 500 total mile range. When the EV is 350 currently with hope that increases for both models. But if you look at the amount of any so called Adventure vehicles are used on highways and byways go off road 20% and use Jeeps for that there's a good comparison. But EV's are the future not Ice just research R&D where money being invested battery tech or V-8's Once the dinosaurs die off the ice age will finally be behind us. Enjoy your day and I apologize for straying from topic

Keep in mind you only get 500 miles of range when Erev is fully charged and full tank of gas once battery depletes your range is now 350 because your not charging and fueling up simultaneously

I know there have been posts that a few people have changed their reservation, but I doubt it's enough to move the needle more than a few percent. Scout has been decently transparent with the EREV/BEV breakdown and if they saw a big shift I'm sure they would release that info. They want their reservations decently accurate for capacity planning.

The confusion about the range was unfortunate due to idle speculation and assumptions from vloggers that spread like wildfire. But on release day there was one vlogger that asked Jaime directly and he said the 150/350 split and reported it correctly, so I made my reservation two days later based on that information.

My actual mileage will probably be 90% city and major highway trips and 10% rural highways with a RV where it is currently very difficult to find and plan fast charger access. But if I'm going to pay $70k for a truck, I don't want to deal with the 10%, and would keep my paid off F150 till it dies and look at either a new ICE F150 or their EREV hybrid coming out. I think most Scout buyers will do similar based on all the evidence in the market. They are paying for the capability first and then hoping they can use it. For many it is an aspirational purchase and manufacturers have to generate that aspirational vision, where the market is in the near term, to sell.

I do look forward to a real BEV future for larger adventure vehicles. But it is a long ways off yet, and not clear how fast the US market will support on multiple levels.

Which is plenty for me. The 500 mile range is not a selling point. 5 minutes refueling 100 miles from the nearest town with no concern about the only charger for 50 miles being fully functional and accessable with a trailer is the selling point. In practice when towing after the battery depleted and I refuel if I skip a charge too, I would expect closer to 200 mile range.

But let's admit the majority of Scout buyers will not tow or go off roading so if your Scout who you marketing to the 20% or the 80 %

In America we buy vehicles based on thoughts, hopes, dreams and prayers, NOT what we actually NEED the vehicle for.

If we bought like that and manufactures sold what we "needed" there would only be 2 door Civics on the road.

Show me a Scout add where the car is just driving around the city, pretty sure most, if not all, of them show it bounding across an open field with not another car or building in sight.

With my F-150 Lightning, I saw a 25% decrease in range during winter. My Lightning was a newer model which had a heat-pump assist built into the system. I ran HVAC only when needed, and generally stick to the speed limit at all times. Still, the decrease was significant. It was obvious to me that BEVs do not like cold weather.
