Hi everyone - As a dog owner, I’m trying to understand how the HVAC system will behave on the Harvester, especially in parked situations.
Many EVs today (Tesla, Rivian, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Volvo, Polestar) support features like:
  • Dog Mode / Pet Mode
  • Cabin Overheat Protection
  • Climate control while parked
  • Automatic battery sustain using the range extender (for EREVs)
Since the Harvester uses an electric compressor and a HV battery, it should technically be possible to keep the AC running for hours — and even indefinitely if the range extender is allowed to maintain the battery.

My questions:
  1. Will the Harvester support AC operation while parked?
  2. Will there be a dedicated Dog Mode or Stay Mode?
  3. Will the range extender be allowed to start automatically to maintain cabin temperature?
  4. Will there be app‑based monitoring or alerts for cabin temperature?
This is an important safety feature for pet owners, and I’d love to know if Scout plans to support it.
Thanks!

Scout has shown Pet Mode in UX demonstrations, with the ability to upload a picture of your pet.

My Cadillac VISTIQ has a 1 hr button you hit keeps vehicles AC or heat running and turns off child seat alert. I ran in store one day and didn't utilize button and car alarm was going off do to child seat alert. But I like the idea of the Scout Pack a modular home battery that is mobile and was engineered to fit in tire carrier as an additional power source or EV extender or used as a campsite power supply that's recharged via foldable solar panel that's where automakers see value in home and commercial battery storage all the big auto manufacturers are utilizing their battery investments but it's going to be awhile before our mail order bride arrives hope she can cook !!

One would assume the tech understands the mode, same with camp mode. These modes should know if energy drops close 0, turn on the harvester to charge the battery.

If they miss that day 1, I would bet a software update will be added soon after.

Rivian has pet mode as well. The software comes from Rivian, I am sure they will add in the harvester

Does anyone know if the Tesla/Rivian pet mode have phone app telemetry? I mean, it would be super cool (no pun intended) to leave the car and know your doggies are being air conditioned, but it would weigh heavily in my mind that something could fail and cook them. That would scar me for life :whatsgoingon:

These are great questions that I hope Scout can address with their upcoming Release.

These are great questions I hope Scout addresses for their upcoming Release. There are literally thousands of potential customers that have this need for such reasons as "Pets In Car"; "Camping, Hunting, Traveling Needs" both in our great American Domestic AND International Markets.
Based on Scouts recent Client Gift to those of us invested in Scout (""Scout The America Others Pass By" it is very telling that addressing these needs only MULTIPLIES gaining future Customers into our "SCOUT Experience."

Answering my own question, I put out the question regarding pet mode status on vehicle app to an acquaintance in Seattle who has a Tesla. He got back to me this morning and said yes the app shows mode and current interior car temp. I would assume that Rivian has the same(?).

We can turn on the air or heat with the app on our ID4 while we are away

You can hit button that allows car to run for 60 minutes while locked while you run in and out

This pet mode thing has me intrigued, we've owned dogs for about 30 years, we've never left them in a car (kids either).

Do people with EV's routinely leave their animals in parked cars? What's different if I leave my pet in a car with the engine running vs. leaving it in an EV in "pet mode"? What am I missing here? Why is this even a thing?

Now, would it be nice to leave the AC on in my car when I ran into target to keep it cool? Sure, but I can do that with my gas car too. But I'd be wasting gas, well aren't you wasting electricity too? It has to come from somewhere and someone has to pay for it.

Couple different scenarios your EV can run it's heat pump in garage no fumes. In target parking lot it's quite you don't hear an engine running and electric usage is minimal and not generating heat

I’m pretty sure that an EV uses (especially with heat pump) considerably less power than the gas you would be using which is definitely more expensive than charging at home costs. Plus, I think some gas cars in hot environments could overheat. I would be pretty shocked to see someone’s car sitting in a parking lot locked and engine running.

That would also mean that its doors aren’t probably locked because the keys would have to be in the ignition. Or in some newer cars with FOB sensing the engine will quickly shut down with no one inside in the drivers seat and no FOB present. Leave the FOB in the car then to work the AC and then the doors are open and someone can just get in and drive it away. Leave keys in the ignition and police will give you a big fat deserved ticket because someone scumbag car thief will love you for that.

OR have pet mode, silent operation and locked doors while your pooch sucks in some efficient 65* cooling eating that nice 🦴 bone you left him while you shop at Target 🎯 for perhaps some lovely tuck-friendly swimwear 🌈😅 or greeting cards.

Both of my doggies have now passed on 😢, but I really hope to have pet mode on my next car because we can’t stand not having a dog around, and we’ll want them to be cool and listen to Tower of Power while we’re out doing whatever.
