Well from reveal day (even though some vloggers made assumptions that got reshared without citations from Scout) I saw a quote from one careful vlogger who got Jaime to say that it would be about 150 mi battery and 350 mi on the Harvester. So I knew exactly what I was reserving.
I've also seen...
From marketing its clear they are worried about the 25%, because that legitimizes the purchase to the 75% - regardless of if its an aspirational purchase that is never realized, or the capability will be infrequently used or regularly used.
Some of us dream (which is valid as it makes the drudgery bareable) and some of us do (even if it's 10% of our total mileage).
I drove an electric car. It was a very nice vehicle. Some day our family will own one, probably first as a work commuter and in town car.
But recharging it in a good...
Particularly for the market Scout is going for, I believe the way you feel is the 20%, and 60% hope to be in the other 20%. All of the market evidence points this way.
It would be pissing in the wind for Scout to try to convince the 60% are really in your 20%, rather than actually marketing to...
Which is plenty for me. The 500 mile range is not a selling point. 5 minutes refueling 100 miles from the nearest town with no concern about the only charger for 50 miles being fully functional and accessable with a trailer is the selling point. In practice when towing after the battery depleted...
I know there have been posts that a few people have changed their reservation, but I doubt it's enough to move the needle more than a few percent. Scout has been decently transparent with the EREV/BEV breakdown and if they saw a big shift I'm sure they would release that info. They want their...
Again there are more relevant posts for this discussion, but US Range Rovers are bought as status items like Rolexes and Gucci handbags, so not a great comparison.
A majority of the people excited about the return of Scout want it for the heritage, and would buy one if it was full ICE over BEV...
This is pretty off topic of the parent post. But energy density of batteries is only half of the problem. The other half is having as many fast chargers that actually work and fully charge fast, everywhere people want to travel, especially for an adventure vehicle.
I hope they have a way to turn on only the back heater. I don't like my bum warmed. Feels like I need to take a crap.
And a heated seatbelt sounds really nice. I wonder if they could put an infrared heater in the ceiling of the regular roof more cheaply and easily pointed at your chest and lap.
Personally the Scout Terra EREV is exactly what I want if it can tow at least 5k lbs and is affordable.
I also want a Scout for the nostalgia. But I'll definitely consider the coming EREV Lightning and RAM REV if they are significantly more affordable and meet my needs as well or better.
I mostly agree. I would never start with a dead battery, and I would expect that the nav computer would calculate anticipated energy draw and warn me. Apparently the dead battery thing is just a requirement of the SAE test, though it probably needs revisions for EREV/BEV use.
I think you are...
There are a lot of assumptions here that are contrary to all currently released information from Scout. They've said they are using a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated VW engine of approximately 2 liters and they have test mules of them, though the one Jay drove was electric only and really just an...
I absolutely would buy an EV Bolt today for work commuting if I had enough space and money to have a weekday car and a weekend car. My wife and I seriously considered buying her one until she decided she was happy enough with her old CR-V and the savings wouldn't cover the payment difference at...
So I drove my first BEV this weekend. I went to Bradenton Florida to help a friend in a health crisis. It was the cheapest though still very expensive rental available due to spring break. I got a Mercedes EQB 300. I'm glad I did this to know what I like and what I hate. Renting a BEV is a one...
* max range packages start at $76,000, way above target pricing for Scout. And there haven't been any huge advances in production car battery capacity or cost. They have slowly accrued over the past decade.
I think Scout will have some of the things discussed... in the mid 2030's.
Most of us will be getting our Scouts in 2 years hopefully. No, in 4 years I don't think battery capacity, nor charging infrastructure will be appreciably better in production vehicles that I would want to switch. In the over 7 years since the model 3 was released the long range version has...
I second the reluctant dealer customer, but I'm not quite so hard core. If I can place the order online with verified pricing, even if the official sale has to happen in person, there are no "market adjustments" and they sell it at MSRP, and they can try to sell me some optional upgrades...
Both sides of this argument like to talk past each other and not listen to the specific reasons a certain option doesn't work or doesn't appeal to the other.
I'd never try to convince someone that one of these options is definitely better for their life than the other.
But the reason people...
For me to go BEV the charging times need to get to under 10 minutes, there needs to be massively more charger stalls out on secondary highways in west Texas that are trailering friendly and on a charging network you can see and trust they will be functional, along with a little longer range...
Hopefully this isn't as impactful for Scout as the rest of VW since they were a clean slate and planning to use more of the Rivian network and systems architecture from the start.
But of course there would need to be a bit of architecture expansion on Rivians side to accommodate unique VW...
