Scout Launch Delayed Until 2028 Summer: Report

Have seen most of the details elsewhere BUT big revelation for me was that the delay may partly be due to re-engineering the Harvester engine to allow non-upright (conventional) packaging which requires redesigning engine oil management system.

Already not a fan of the rear mounted Harvester “modular” concept BUT getting the engine lubrication re-engineering done correctly will be critical. Remember the Pontiac Fiero which took a perfectly reliable engine and redesigned the lubrication system for “packaging”. Turned out to be a durability problem due to inconsistent engine oil delivery to critical components.

One more reason (excuse?) for me to keep my EV reservation and a second ICE vehicle around for all of the needs that a EREV fulfills.

Look at Donut lab they claim the've broken the code and have a solid state battery now being used in upcoming electric motor cycle. And is currently being tested by a third party Finland lab check it out.

And then there is this? Not sure if Donut Labs is being 100% honest or if this guy isn't as smart as he professes to be but in either case the technology isn't anywhere near ready, if it is even a viable option at all.

It will be quite awhile before new battery tech is adopted and considered safe for EVs.

NCM and LFP after 15 years considered safe enough to use.

I figure at my current age, I will be at my RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) age before I see solid state, sodium, or new tech EV batteries being produced.

Let's see how many people know "RMD".....

I think by end of 2028 you'll see major mass production batteries being used in new 2029 offerings and Scout being one of the early adopters. I believe Tesla just made a patent on a roller process of producing batteries and the Chinese will lead the way

Yes, I think the technology will be better, but will Scout be able to pivot from what they are designing today to integrate the new tech?

At some point the tech needs to be "bolted down" so to speak. These cars need to be crash tested and certified probably 1-2 years before production. So will the batteries be better in '28, sure. Will they be able to be put into a '28 Scout, nope. Maybe in the '32 refresh.

I'm 15 years out from RMD's but I have mostly Roth's so they won't be a huge issue!

AND I raised two daughters and have a grand daughter!

The revival of the Scout brand by Volkswagen could take longer than initially planned, with the first vehicles expected to reach customers in 2028, according to Scott Keogh.

Speaking during a discussion with members of the Automotive Press Association in Detroit, Keogh suggested that customer deliveries would occur later than the previously anticipated 2027 timeline. “When do I see the cars in the hands of a physical customer? I see that sometime in 2028,” he said.

It will get released when it gets released. I would not get the first year it is released regardless. So realistically, I would think around 2030 would be the soonest. That also gives time to rent the car and evaluate it, and time for some people to review it. I don't care about being the first to have it.

Well that's you. I would like to be one of the first and someone has got to do it so you should thank us : ). Heck im willing to review it too but still prefer the full EV version.

I am waiting for what they originally came to market with and will endure the delays and challenges but I cannot see why Scout come 2028 / 2029 cannot have cutting edge battery technology within their offerings that exceeds today's original projections. But whenever they assemble their team and final designs I hope the product replicates the quality that the nameplate once represented. It would be tragic to have such delays and hen have quality issues and if what I read that scout intends to DTC model and a standalone model service and delivery centers. One would think a) the lawsuit from dealers is litigated and b) start building out service centers if not aligned with VW but that would take more transparency on Scouts part which I would welcome.
