Scout Has 160,000 Reservations—and 87% Aren’t for the EV

Only four months ago, the reservation mix was 80/20 in favor of the extended-range powertrain.

Scout Motors, the U.S.-based EV startup operating as an independent subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, has announced that it has racked up more than 160,000 reservations for its ladder-frame Traveler SUV and Terra pickup.

That’s obviously great news considering that the company had reported around 130,000 reservations in late October 2025, which means that it has received 30,000 reservations since—or about 7,500 each month.

Scout CEO Says First Customer Deliveries Coming in 2028

Scout CEO said at an Automotive Press Association event in Detroit on March 4 that the company will begin building prototype models this year in South Carolina, according to Reuters.

The automaker previously said volume production would start in 2027, but Keogh said yesterday he expects the SUV and pickup to be in customer hands by 2028. This appears to confirm recent media reports claiming the rollout has been delayed due to technical challenges.

I wonder if the ICE range extender is causing the technical challenge? It seems like fitting a 4-cylinder engine behind the rear axle and below the rear load floor/pickup truck bed would be challenging.

13% seems low to me especially once everyone grasps the Erev to EV range 150 in lein of 350 will change peoples minds especially if battery advances are offered I will wait for the EV version

It sure looks like there will be a direct EREV competitor (Bronco) from Ford by then.

Right, I have already owned both technologies in my 2011 Volt and my 2023 Mach E. EV by far is the better way to go, especially since it is going to be nearly 100 more miles of range than my current EV. I just don't understand the need for the EREV version with its complicated drivetrain giving it the best, but also the WORST of both worlds. The folks that have reserved those EREVs need to seriously ask themselves if they need that extra 150 miles of range enough to justify the extra maintenance and reduction in raw performance over the EV version. My Mach E has more than 60K miles now and we have only had to purchase tires. No maintenance whatsoever. There is a lot of power in that...

When I sold my Volt after 11 years of ownership, the battery was still within 85% of its original capacity (rough estimate) but it was starting to have engine error codes when switching between all battery and engine power (which happens after battery range is fully depleted). I can see that being the "Achilles hill" with any vehicle that has EREV tech on it as that is a very complicated process to keep straight over time.

Not to mention the dealership lawsuit will pursue the non compliance to full EV company requirements to sell DTC the Erev will kill that argument. EV with 300 plus range is 80 percent of the time sufficient. Bump that up to 450 / 500 then it becomes 100 percent. Erev is a plug in hybrid that needs fuel in lein of electric and only meets its projected range when both battery and tank are full which is only once when you leave home to embark on your long trip. Very limited segment.

I reserved a Terra and a Traveler, both with the harvester just to have the option. But the reality is one reservation will be cancelled and the other (if the pricing is right) will be the BEV, not the harvester. Im not really interested in a EREV. I know I am outnumbered on that, but there may be more reservations like mine out there. And I suppose that goes the other way too. Just saying the reservations may give a decent guesstimate, but they are not necessarily the truth

Similar boat. I originally reserved a a Terra Harvester, but will almost certainly end up ordering BEV. I wonder how many others jumped on the Harvester option initially, and would change if they were reserving now?

My hope is Scout gives us a heads up to it's time to switch or place your order or both switch and place my order for the extended range Bev. Will the Erev be covered by same 8 yr warranty the Bev drivetrain is ?? Since gas engine is involved ?

Nothing complicated about the ‘Harvester drive train”. It is identical to the BEV (strictly electric). The Harvester is strictly a generator and does not provide any direct motive power.

I know it's a generator running a 100 percent of the time once battery the battery reaches a certain point or heavy load. My point is this( you fully charge your Erev vehicle battery and top off fuel tank how big ? 12 / 15 gallons ? Pack up the family and off to the mountains well once battery reaches a certain point Erev kicks in and now will run and have to be filled depending on length of trip your not recharging battery and gassing up so how many kilowatts per gallon does the Erev provide the 500 mile projected range only occurs once on initial departures then I am only getting 350 miles of range thereafter because Erev is now running full time. So for the times long trips occur why not go Bev 350 miles of pure electric range and by the time they actually get to production that most likely will increase

I changed my order today to Bev bi directional charging is an amazing option EV's simply Rock !!! Once you live with one you see for yourself. I set up my Florida home to where my caddy can power 5 circuits if outages occur and they do will run Ac / refrigerator, pool filter and basic lighting for 3 days plus second home owners no battery tender fuel additives oil changes or drips for those going EV look into bi directional charging when setting up your home charger
