Their forcing you to buy a house on the water this way there's no need for towing that's the long game

But if they put the extender up front, they can have both range and towing capacity. And still have auxiliary storage in the back. Why compromise on towing capacity when there is an alternative storage area? Keep the frunk for the BEV version.
Unfortunately at this point I think it's knee jerk reaction to market forces and they're backed into a corner with no way out. I fear that by launch this thing is going to be a cobbled together mess.

That's why sticking with the original idea is a good one I'll wait longer for the original concept full EV I don't want to come off as being a tree hugger EV guy I just after owning and driving on long trips have no issues in my orbit and share those experiences. I cannot see going back to gas powered vehicles. To those who care not to venture into the Electric Vehicle Market enjoy your ride and safe motoring but my whole life 66 yrs I have always been in search of horsepower and torque and I've found it in a EV

Scout has said they are going for a gas and go 'no compromise' experience with the Harvester. To do that you'll need a good bit more hp for altitude and mountain driving at highway speeds.

They are also targeting a Harvester towing rating between 5,000-7,000 lbs based on some conflicting comments and to advertise that they will have to meet the SAE J2807 standard.

They've selected a 2.0 non turbo engine. So if they stay with the Otto cycle it will likely make about 150 hp. If they pick Miller or another cycle it may be closer to 120.
Yeah it needs to be a no compromise solution. More power is generally better.

Well one would hope Scout is utilizing real time data from current Erev models that have been in use and modified over the past few years in Chinese brands they are so far ahead of US and Japanese brands

EREV's are currently being used in Europe and China not like were invented the wheel but everyone isn't going to like the towing loads but Scout's main customers aren't concerned their put mountain bikes or EV bikes or a jet ski

I have to say my first impression of the Harvester concept was that we were getting a 350 mile battery with a 150 mile range extender, which would act as an "emergency" or "limp home" mode, or simply something to get us through the charging deserts, or if you ran out of juice on the trail. An electric car with a safety backup generator, with about 5 gallons of gas in a small tank. I'd be thrilled to have a setup where the 350 mile battery is the stock setup, with the option of adding the gas generator, even if it costed $10,000 more. And while the frunk is a nice to have, that's a pretty recent concept... that's where the engine has nearly always been (unless you had a Porche or something). For me, there's enough storage without it. I'd be fine losing that space as a tradeoff to having this kind of backup. Even if it were a smaller engine that could only charge the vehicle when it wasn't running, so maybe you'd have to park for an hour or two to charge up again, I would gladly pay more for that. I'm clearly not an engineer, but I wonder if they pursued this kind of logic at all before arriving where they are. OK, sorry, rant over...

Well from reveal day (even though some vloggers made assumptions that got reshared without citations from Scout) I saw a quote from one careful vlogger who got Jaime to say that it would be about 150 mi battery and 350 mi on the Harvester. So I knew exactly what I was reserving.

I've also seen a quote from Scott that said something to the effect that while they don't promise any pricing, they were trying to keep the manufacturing costs of the Harvester and BEV versions close to the same.

I'm sure they've at least considered what you suggested. Though a smaller engine would likely take 2 hours of charging for every hour of driving (not towing). It would be a true emergency generator and that I would not like.

I'd like a bigger battery on the Harvester too. But my budget doesn't allow for another $10k on top of a likely $70k truck when I option it out. And they would definitely have some major packaging issues to deal with, along with redesign delays that could push them well past 2028 initial deliveries if they tried to release that initially versus on future updates.

I hope they get close to what they've announced (capability wise) out the door relatively on time. I'm already resigned to the fact that since I want the Terra I may have to wait till about 2030 since they need to prioritize the Traveler Harvester to start bringing in revenue, given what a bad situation VW is in now.
