Edit: this is borne out in this site's reservation stats here:

82.6% are for the Harvester EREV!

Why More People Are Ordering The Hybrid Scout Than The Electric One

If 2024 was the “Year of the Hybrid,” then I think it’s fair to say that the next ten years in the United States will be the “Decade of the EREV.”

No one knows what the battery sizes and efficiency stats will be. Until we get real numbers, people will hedge W the harvester, ive reserved the harvester - if the range is only 150miles before you dip into the gas generator then I would switch my order To EV only because that’s insufficient. What for more information and we will see how this shakes out.

I think 150 EV is not enough I was hoping more of 350 and extender addition of 150 to give you the 500 mile range.. But like you stated we need to see what comes out of scout and that will determine how many reservations turn into actual orders.

They’ve been pretty clear in several communications that it’s 150 EV, 350 Harvester. Sure, it could change, but there’s no way they can stick a gas engine and tank on a vehicle with the full size 350 mile battery. That’s just not going to happen.

Right now we have a beautiful partner who looks to do everything right but it hasn't cooked or raised kids yet this baby needs to come to life and start cooking to see and have realtime data. And scout needs to get build sheets and actual offerings out to reservation holders and be nice to enlighten by scout when those milestones will occur. What are the timeframes for design, order / build codes , Options and trims my hope is 6 months when is factory slated to come online are they currently on schedule. When can the loyal scout reservationist expect to see information and will there be availability to see feel and touch the vehicle of choice before ordering.

Originally I reserved the Traveler Harvester but the the way I interpreted the marketing information was the BEV was 350 miles on the battery and the generator brought the mileage up to 500+ miles…. I’m thinking 350 plus another 150 for the generator. Later much to my disappointment it was 150 for the BEV portion, with a smaller battery, and 350 attributable to the generator to get up to the 500+ miles. To me the EREV option is a compromise on the BEV philosophy (a smaller battery and thus less miles with electric) and more reliance from the ICE engine/generator. At this point I really I hope Scout can get anything off the production line in 2027 or 2028 given the hostile business environment with the current U.S. administration, I understand Toyota just pulled it’s $8 Billion plans to manufacture in the US and is going to Canada. I just heard this and have not substantiated the move. If true WOW

Charging infrastructure is expanding rapidly. I prefer a BEV where I don't have two systems to maintain.

I think a lot of people going for the EREV simply aren't used to living with an EV. It takes a little adaptation but, then, is easy and rewarding. This from someone who has an EREV Chevy Volt that has maintenance schedules that aren't that much different than an straight ICE car. My BEV truck is a lot less demanding.

I think once people get their first EV, they realize they can easily integrate another in the family and discover all the benefits of going electric. Maybe the delay of Scout gives people a little more time to get a 2nd hand EV first. That's what I did anyway. Canceled my reservation and picked up an off-lease EV6. My son asked me tonight if I'd still get a Scout when they come out (since I'm handing over my Jeep this weekend to its new owner). I think at this point I'll wait for an off-lease Scout to see if they nailed it or not. By 2030/31 my Forester will be 14 years old and probably a good time move to an off-lease Scout. This delay shifted my purchase plans.

If someone offers a 2-door EV beforehand though (assuming higher battery densities), all bets are off. But I imagine that's too much of a niche market for any emerging EV brand. Maybe some Chinese company will make one?
