I’ve been on a lot of car forums and what I didn’t know or expect was the huge amount of forum members here that are off-roaders or campsite warriors. I’ve never been “that guy”, so it’s been a learning experience being here and realizing that my use case is in the tiny minority. My Scout, if it comes to fruition, will definitely be as No Remorse’s “pavement princess” :involve: description. Just like my Defender, it’s never going to be rolling out into the wild for some campsite bedbugs.

Completely understand those who want to range extender for those under the stars moments in the Toolies. I’m just looking for a bad-ass looking AWD Scout type rig with hopefully the awesome utilitarian interior like the Defender has. Which is the biggest reason why I bought it. It’s been 12 years of owning an EV or EREV and have yet to pay for charging anywhere.
SchnauzerDad, have you ever tried beach driving? Would be a great use for your SUV vehicles. I started as an 8yo passenger on Cape Cod, and am still at it in my 70's on the East Coast. There appears to be great beach driving on your coast. https://share.google/jqc7gZeOjRy3TqBDP

My use case is similar to yours although I plan to use the vehicle for mild camping associated with fishing trips. Looking at possible routes, it will be easy to have enough range with the BEV version. There will also be enough battery capacity to run all of the campsite electrical appliances, including the camp mode air-conditioning for several days. Many of the potential campgrounds offer EV charging as well so I'll be able to head back on a full charge. If I was someone going to campsites so remote that EV charging was not an option, I would charge up to 100% at the last available DC fast charging location and bring a portable gas generator with enough gasoline to recharge the battery at the campsite so that I had a full charge in between stops and when it was time to go home.

Without folks like you, who are the vast majority of Bronco, Rivian, Jeep, Land Rover, 4Runner, etc. and future Scout buyers, these off-road capable vehicles would not exist. So folks like me, who want something to take us to the back of beyond owe you our gratitude, not sneers.

Still, when I see such vehicles in a suburban mall, I always feel a little sorry that it will never know the joys of great empty distances and the silence and dark skies of the middle of nowhere. But thanks for buying them and making them possible.

Compared to the first International Scout my mother bought in 1967, which became my first beach car, SUV's have become incredibly capable, both as 4wd vehicles and road cars. That first Scout was bare bones, saddle gas tanks that I switched with a brass seacock, three speed, small 4cyl engine that got 14mpg, rough, noisey, great tractor traction in the sand, and no lockers!

it’s surprising where ground clearance and two-wheel drive with a limited-slip diff will take you. The right tires also help.

The more of these leaks we see, the less happy I am with my deposit - only $100 and I've always just counted it as a small gamble anyway. You just can't overstate the impact of this particularly on towing capacity as has been mentioned in other threads. That much weight sitting directly next to the receiver is not a good thing.

I'll GLADLY give up the frunk for easier engine access for maintenance and better weight distribution when putting gear in the back and hooking up my camper trailer. The back, plus a roof rack and/or cargo box on top, is PLENTY of space. I've done cross country trips then up into the Canadian Rockies pulling a small camper, with plenty of gear, all in a 4runner which has less cargo space and capacity that the Traveler will have even without a frunk.

Come on Scout... I'm really pulling for you but you're making this seriously difficult on us! This feels more and more like one the many absolutely awesome concepts/designs that ultimately end up in the trash bin of automotive history. Forget the frunk on the EREV versions - yes it's a huge selling point for EV's, but an EREV is basically like a traditional ICE or a PHEV.

Ice is like the wicked witch Melting !! As I stated previously I think VW / Scout like GM and Ford will get into the battery storage business and V2 home charging. So imagine the Scout pack ? A stackable home battery system that is also mobile and is engineered to fit perfectly in rear tire storage area. In Case of Terra pick up the toner cover is solar and is pre wired to power scout pack battery. This allows for dedicated campsite power that's recharging daily allowing vehicle batteries to be used for driving. The old saying what ya have under the hood we won't know for awhile but they have great options to ponder

SchnauzerDad, have you ever tried beach driving?
Yes, but very limited. You can’t drive on the Oregon coast except for a few very small little places . I guess they don’t want you driving over someone’s head whose body is buried in the sand ….. never did understand that one…. Unless you’re looking to get 🦀 crabs? Yeesh

But up in Washington you can in many places. And I’ve been out there in our first FPace. It is cool driving on the beach. 🏖

Times have sure changed…. “Roughing it” now includes an EV charger nearby 😅. We are creatures of comfort for sure.

If I had young kids that wanted to camp under the stars things might be different but I only got one, and she never expressed interest in camping. That kid likes to travel the world over, thats her thang.

Can’t wait to see a real Scout this Saturday in Seattle. 😃
