I’ve been on a lot of car forums and what I didn’t know or expect was the huge amount of forum members here that are off-roaders or campsite warriors. I’ve never been “that guy”, so it’s been a learning experience being here and realizing that my use case is in the tiny minority. My Scout, if it comes to fruition, will definitely be as No Remorse’s “pavement princess” :involve: description. Just like my Defender, it’s never going to be rolling out into the wild for some campsite bedbugs.

Completely understand those who want to range extender for those under the stars moments in the Toolies. I’m just looking for a bad-ass looking AWD Scout type rig with hopefully the awesome utilitarian interior like the Defender has. Which is the biggest reason why I bought it. It’s been 12 years of owning an EV or EREV and have yet to pay for charging anywhere.
SchnauzerDad, have you ever tried beach driving? Would be a great use for your SUV vehicles. I started as an 8yo passenger on Cape Cod, and am still at it in my 70's on the East Coast. There appears to be great beach driving on your coast. https://share.google/jqc7gZeOjRy3TqBDP

My use case is similar to yours although I plan to use the vehicle for mild camping associated with fishing trips. Looking at possible routes, it will be easy to have enough range with the BEV version. There will also be enough battery capacity to run all of the campsite electrical appliances, including the camp mode air-conditioning for several days. Many of the potential campgrounds offer EV charging as well so I'll be able to head back on a full charge. If I was someone going to campsites so remote that EV charging was not an option, I would charge up to 100% at the last available DC fast charging location and bring a portable gas generator with enough gasoline to recharge the battery at the campsite so that I had a full charge in between stops and when it was time to go home.

Without folks like you, who are the vast majority of Bronco, Rivian, Jeep, Land Rover, 4Runner, etc. and future Scout buyers, these off-road capable vehicles would not exist. So folks like me, who want something to take us to the back of beyond owe you our gratitude, not sneers.

Still, when I see such vehicles in a suburban mall, I always feel a little sorry that it will never know the joys of great empty distances and the silence and dark skies of the middle of nowhere. But thanks for buying them and making them possible.
