Yeah I personally agree but I guess some people wouldn’t mind a retrofit that could improve mileage in the classics. Anyway, I thought it was an interesting alternative to the problem.

It is indeed. Thanks for sharing.

When I got to the part about the reporter’s Fit, I knew immediately that it was a manual. I currently drive a Crosstrek six-speed stick, which isn’t made anymore. I have one of those “Save the manuals” bumper stickers. It’s the biggest thing about the switch that I’ll lament, having to let go of this way of driving. Alas, the market has long made that shift For me.

The folks converting old Broncos and the like, and/or selling conversion kits, understand something about consumers. People long for the aesthetics of vehicles they love without being chained to an ICE. To me, this kind of hybridity is the perfect solution. As an alternative to paying someone $250k for a fancy, bespoke conversion, seems like it would perform decently on the market.

It didn't say if the driveshaft option was the only way to do it but if it is not sure how it would work on a front wheel drive car like the Fit? Looks like it would have to be a manual rear wheel drive car the way it's set up now. Like the concept.

I love any idea where the car of my dreams can get a minimum 40 to 50 miles of electric range but does that mean I’m going to have that huge road case battery in the rear of the car? Not sure who’s going to be okay with that…. got a feeling that the inventor is leaving battery placement up to the owner. Heck, if I could do that in my Defender by leaving off the rear spare and replacing it with a battery instead……. 🤔. Ugh probably too heavy still and nowhere for those big camlocks to go….😅

Memories of reading Popular Mechanic as a kid in the early 70's. Sounds like the stuff they loved to feature.

Got my first Scout II in '74 when I turned 16... it was a '71 304 with 3 speed stick on the floor. Already leaked around the windshield... I assume they came from the plant leaking somewhere.

It's sounding likely that the Ford Rachero will start taking orders in Jan. 2027. Scout is going to lose any advantage that they had in terms of timing, fast.

I would hate to be trying to do strategy for any of the electrics right now. Technology moving so fast, and demand growth in the US unclear. Add in supply chain issues (batteries, maybe chips), other vehicles announced that may never be built. Real bravery to pick a date and set of specs and commit. Meanwhile, fixed cost of the company rises by the month with no revenue. Tough. The winners won't necessarily be the ones with the best solution, but rather the ones with the best access to long term risk capital.

That's why it's great to have options of what we buy tickets for right now we're all in line to see feel and touch at that time we will decide if scout is or isn't something we want in our driveway it's really that simple.

Your at a 100 dollar black jack table now once the dealer deals you the cards you decide to play or fold in 2 yrs but VW the mothership has problems of its own right now with restructuring
