If Quantumscape comes thru, then they’ll be sittin’ pretty. They’ll have the newest tech, hopefully more range and less costs since they’re invested. VW and Bill Gates are huge investors in QS

To be honest VW is not in great shape currently globally and they need to cut jobs and close or sell factories but European unions control the board so they aren't going to approve cost cutting in their areas. So we have to see what the new CEO can do but right now VW is not doing well.

The folks converting old Broncos and the like, and/or selling conversion kits, understand something about consumers. People long for the aesthetics of vehicles they love without being chained to an ICE. To me, this kind of hybridity is the perfect solution. As an alternative to paying someone $250k for a fancy, bespoke conversion, seems like it would perform decently on the market.
After 40 years driving CJ's and Wranglers, I said for years all I wanted was my latest 2012 2-door Wrangler in EV form. If I could have spent $6K to convert it to an EV that got maybe 60-80 miles per charge or more I would have done it. As it was, I had 150K miles on the clutch, had just replaced all the rockers, was probably looking at axle seals soon... I had maintained it really well, but you just never know what's next as far as the drivetrain went. Decided not to wait any longer and sold it for an EV6. I do miss it, but the EV is just stellar - and the whole family can drive it, as opposed to my 6-speed Jeep. I'm 57 and hope to someday see a short-wheelbase, high-riding EV before I leave the planet. Maybe once battery density gets better someone will offer one.
