  1. Battery size and towing range

I think your mileage number is likely for the 100-0% range given all of your caveats. But don't forget that it's better to do 90-10% for battery longevity and environmental variability that's hard to forecast exactly. Also if it's more than one daily recharging that recharge rate dramatically...
  2. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

If Scout were to start development today with an anticipated 2031 model year release then I think I would prefer your suggestion as I really don't care about the frunk. But this is just too big of a development restart from their original electric only vision to hit the 2028 MY goal. I'd rather...
  3. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

Well I expect even the BEV to have 2 battery modules at least - one in front of the rear axle and one behind the rear axle. While I expect that they do change up the chemistry for Harvester, has Scout actually confirmed this? If they do it, it would just be a swap of the front module from LFP to...
  4. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

I expect the actual output will be about 125 hp, and I don't believe that will be underpowered. As I recall the actual rolling horsepower requirement for a pickup even fully loaded, as long as there isn't protrusions into the wind, at 70 mph on flat ground is around 50 hp. Hills are short term...
  5. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

Since none of us have inside visibility into Scout's progress all we have is hope that they can deliver in 2028 something close to what they propose at close to $60k, and that they've done enough engineering studies before announcing anticipated features that they feel pretty confident in it...
  6. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

The generator will likely be closer to 100-150 hp output than 250. Packaging shouldn't be super difficult as look at the tiny engine compartments of some micro cars. Though a boxer engine seems like it would have worked better. I agree that cooling and maintenance access will be thorny challenges.
  7. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

That's not what this statement means to me. "and reduce the two complex electric drive systems (BEV and EREV) to one." Just moving the range extender into the Frunk does not equate to reducing drive systems. It's just moving one of them. "Use one battery pack for either system" I wasnt even...
  8. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

Another issue I didn't go into is Scout was built as an EV first company. Scott specifically said the range extender is a pretty simple module swap that happens towards the end of the manufacturing, and until that point the vehicles are pretty indistinguishable saving costs. Redesigning the...
  9. Time to give up the frunk (if you want the Harvester engine)...

A parallel hybrid (which is what you are describing) , isn't a simplification especially if it's designed to have the electric motor drive the car alone for some distance. It's actually pretty complicated to do it smoothly with the added CVT drive transmission that links both power sources to...
  10. As an older "I dont want to be connected person"....

People are notoriously bad about leaving updates turned completely off. I don't think there should be a way to turn off automatic download of updates. But I would agree that they shouldn't automatically apply. When you turn the car off you should get a screen that says 'Updated vehicle...
  11. Harvester range extender engine is 4-cylinder and built in Mexico

Of course it can be American made. US car companies have been moving production between US, Mexico, and Canada for decades as they treated the North American market as one. Now for the time being they can't do that. But it's too late in the game for building new subcomponent plants in the USA...
  12. Harvester range extender engine is 4-cylinder and built in Mexico

The target towing capacity for Terra was 10k and Traveler was 7k in BEV form. The reduction Scott implied was pretty surprising. But I'm taking a wait and see. At that big if a weight decrease it makes me think total instant power available is too low for higher weights especially when towing...
  13. Harvester range extender engine is 4-cylinder and built in Mexico

So the concern comes from a quick blurb from Scott on Jay Lenos garage that the range extender towing capacity may be 5k. It didn't seem certain and I haven't seen it reconfirmed anywhere else. But it has people up in arms. There are definitely pathways this could affect the weight rating. The...
  14. As an older "I dont want to be connected person"....

I also think the Telo is going to be similar concept. Though it's look is quite un-tradititional. Given that the Scout will be built on the Rivian software base that is highly connected, I am sure the Scout will run fine without connectivity in the boonies, but i doubt there will be any effort...
  15. Harvester engine options

They could have like the RamCharger is doing, but they didn't. When the Scout funding was approved by VW they were in the midst of an electrification push. The Scout is an EV first with a modular design small generator added when it became clear EV only was a liability for their market. To put...
  16. New Terra Images

They've said the bench seat will have a fold down console. I hope it is nice as the one in my FIL F250. I didn't realize they weren't buckets with a fixed console when I first got in it.
  17. I canceled our two reservations

Besides Scott's quick unclear mention in the Jay Leno podcast, has there been any other confirmation from Scout of exactly 5,000 lb tow capacity on the Harvester? It seems too early to know. @Scout what competitor did you choose? The only other vehicle I might consider is a RamCharger but I'm...
  18. Range extender versus standard gas engine - what can be omitted?

AC generators run at one speed for constant frequency not current. Inverter generators are DC based and the inverter handles frequency control for AC output. I'm actually not sure what's more common in Hybrid cars but I would assume DC generators charge the battery by DC directly after step up...
  19. Terra: bed cover?

I saw that Peragon bed cover and I really want it, but it felt too expensive for my current 2011 F150, which I do love but also hope it is tiding me over till the Terra. I considered the BAKFlip. But I decided to go a little cheaper and got the Worksport AL3. It is light weight, but for the...
  20. Terra - 10 Pleas and Desired Options

If a statement comes from the CEO then it's official unless it was an accidental misspeak that gets corrected. From that perspective spokespeople and PR departments in haste frequently release info that needs clarification and retraction. As a responsible manufacturer you don't go announcing...
