Ha. You can have my Defender. Haven’t driven it since we got an EV. With how cheap home charging is and how expensive premium has become, the Defender is way too expensive to drive. It was fun for a while, but towing cross country with it was like burning money. I’m done with big gas SUV’s.
Sorry your experience was not as good as it should have been, but it’s pretty much the same thing I’ve heard from a number of new EV users, all of whom now wouldn’t let their EV’s go without a fight. I had a few early frustrations too, but you get the hang of things pretty quickly and the...
Filling a 20 gallon tank with a jerry can? Sounds like fun. Plus nothing like handling flammable liquid near a high voltage charger. Maybe re-think that one.
Yes, some stations are starting to install chargers. Took them long enough. But they still won't allow you to fill up gas or electric at the same location. You'll have to fill up and then move over to a charger, and unfortunately, that will usually involve decoupling the trailer because so...
I have an EV currently and there aren’t that many chargers at gas stations. Hardly any at all. You’ll have to fill up at a gas station and then go and find a charger unless you just plan on running on gas from that point on.
Solid state is going to take a lot longer to hit the US than that. I wouldn’t hold out hope for Scout coming out with anything like this in ‘27. Maybe ‘30 or’32 if we’re lucky. Meanwhile, Chinese sold state cars will be all over the world.
Have owned an EV for a year and can’t ever see going back to ICE. EREV sounded interesting at first, but when you really break down how will work towing on a long trip, and look at the reduced tow rating to 5,000 lbs, it doesn’t really do much for me. Also decided we’re going to sell our...
I’d much rather have that than haul around two motor systems with all the headaches of maintaining an ICE engine just to save a few minutes charging on the few long trips we take. The EREV is 100% a complete waste for 95% of daily trips. Having had a BEV for a year now (ID.4 that we love) I...
My current mild hybrid 6 Defender can tow 8,000 lbs. and can easily get 200 miles range doing so. My old Touareg diesel Touareg could also tow 8,000 lbs and got 20 mpg while doing so.
Stellantis patented a new 2 Spd EV transmission for off-road, but so far I think the only EV's with a 2 Spd transmission are the Taycan and Audi etron GT, with Lucid, Mercedes, and a few others planning to add in some new models. Sounds like it would jack up the price considerably, so doubtful...
Good luck with that. The one thing you can count on with tariffs is that all prices, even for domestics, will be higher than without the tariffs. This has been proven out with every tariff over time. We will all pay more for all cars when everything kicks in and the Scout will only cost in...
